Current tasks
I work as a chemist in the unit of Environmental Chemistry Research (YLAB). My responsibilities include:
- Participation in research related to harmful organic compounds present in environmental samples
- Method development and quality assurance including tasks related to accreditation
- Participation in national and international research funding applications and development of the analytical services
Area of expertise
- Chemical analysis of harmful organic compounds
- Liquid and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, GC-MS/MS)
- Chemical analysis method development, validation
Background
My PhD thesis was carried out at the Finnish Institute for Verification of the Chemical Weapons Convention, VERIFIN (2016-20). The focus of the thesis was on analytical method development for sea-dumped chemical warfare agents, mainly sulfur mustard and organic arsenic-based chemicals from marine biota samples (e.g. fish and mussels). For the analysis, various MS techniques (GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, UHPLC-HRMS, UHPLC-MS/HRMS) were applied. My research also dealt with identification of unknown compounds in in vitro metabolite samples and marine sediment samples using Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (OT-HRMS). Experimental work for my PhD thesis was carried out during the research project “Decision Aid for Marine Munitions (DAIMON)” part-financed by the EU INTERREG Baltic Sea Region Programme.
